Remarks by World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim at the Launch of the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection (Inglês)

These remarks were delivered by Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group, at the Launch of the Global Partnership for Universal Social Protection in New York City, on September 21, 2016. He says that an initiative on universal social protection to support social protection for all was launched. He mentions that universal coverage and access to social protection are central to the World Bank Group's twin goals: to end extreme poverty by 2030; and to boost shared prosperity. He states that the medium- and long-term strategy is to financially support the creation and expansion of national social protection systems to help countries build functional social protection systems that protect their populations. He adds that to be effective, it is necessary to align strategies, avoid duplication, and provide common progress scorecards to guide these efforts and inform priorities. He concludes that The Social Protection Inter-Agency Coordination Board is already implementing two important pillars of this initiative. One, work on the common assessment tools. Second, to improve data and better monitor progress toward increasing coverage.
