Tanzania - Zanzibar Urban Services Project : Resettlement Plan (Vol. 2) : Resettlement Action Plan for the Construction of Storm Water Drainage System C, Including Mwanakwerekwe Basin for Zanzibar Urban Municipal Council (Inglês)

This report outlines the agreed plan for the resettlement of persons who will be affected by implementation of the Zanzibar Municipal Council (ZMC) Municipal Solid Waste Landfill and Septic Sludge Treatment Facility project located at Kibele village, Tunguu Shehia, Tunguu Ward,Central District, South Region, on Unguja Island, Zanzibar. The plan has been prepared as the project will involve land take and displacement of dwellings and current land uses on the site causing relocation of people and their assets, affecting livelihoods and other associated impacts. Negative impacts include: loss of land; loss of assets; loss of crops and trees; loss of income; and loss of livelihoods. Some of the mitigation measures include: all assets lost/affected will be compensated by the project. The compensation will cover the individual land lost, residential structures, unfinished structures, permanent crops/trees and seasonal crops; PAPs loosing residential houses or business premises will receive accommodation allowances lasting 36 months to enable pay rent while re-establishing/building their new houses. Also, PAPs whose business will be disrupted crops will be entitled to loss of profit allowance; and appropriately pay compensation to PAPs for lost farms/ crops, income generating activities and other means of livelihoods. Appropriately provide alternative location for farming families for livelihoods continuity.
