On May 29, 1984, Edward Donovan was interviewed on behalf of the World Bank Group Archives oral history program by Charles Ziegler and John Muir. During his tenure at the Bank from 1946 to 1978, Mr. Donovan worked in the following areas: in the administration department as chief of procurement and supply (1946-1951) and of printing and drafting (1951-1958), as assistant office manager (1958-1965), and as chief of the office support services division (1965-1978. His transcript concerns the growth of the World Bank Group during his tenure and under Mr. Robert McNamara as staff numbers increased to over 5,000, which did not include hundreds of consultants, contractors, negotiators, etc. He discusses the challenges of administering and supporting such a large organization in addition to supporting the mission of the World Bank.
