Africa - Regional Communications Infrastructure Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 4) : Étude d'impact environnemental et social (Francês)

The Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (RCIP), the CIP 1,2,3 and following CIP Projects have two overarching development objectives (i) to support populations and businesses across the Eastern & Southern Africa region to have access to quality and affordable telecom services and (ii) making use of affordable capacity, contribute to improved efficiency and transparency of selected government functions/entities through e-government applications. Some of the negative impacts of the project and their mitigation measures are as follows: terrestrial habitat alteration, to be mitigated by linear infrastructure rights-of-way; aviation collisions, to be mitigated by siting towers to avoid critical avian nesting grounds; visual impacts, to be mitigated by minimizing construction of additional towers; and noise, to be mitigated by noise suppression shields and mufflers.
