Egypt, Arab Republic of - Helwan South Power Project : Environmental Assessment : دراسة تقييم التأثيرات البيئية والاجتماعية (Árabe)

The development objective of Helwan South Power Project for Egypt, Arab Republic of is to transfer rich gas from Raven gas field in north Alex to the western desert gas complex in Alexandria to extract the rich components. Some of the negative impacts include: (i) air pollution; (ii) dust emission; (iii) wastewater generation; (iv) noise pollution; (v) impact on flora and fauna; (vi) traffic congestion; (vii) solid, construction and hazardous waste generation; and (viii) risk of damaging existing infrastructure. Some of the mitigation measures include: (i) ensuring that vehicles and equipment will not be left running unnecessarily to reduce gaseous and exhaust emissions from diesel engines; (ii) water spraying before excavation, filling, loading and unloading; (iii) liquid waste generated such as chemicals and drains should be collected in suitable tanks; (iv) ensuring the use of ear plugs in the field; (v) movement of vehicles should be managed to ensure minimal loss of vegetation; (vi) planning alternative routes when roads are obstructed; (vii) covering waste stockpiles to avoid ambient air pollution; and (viii) consult maps before excavation work.
