Congo, Democratic Republic of - Urban Water Supply Project : resettlement policy framework (Vol. 3) : Alimentation en eau potable de la ville de Matadi : plan succint de reinstallation (Francês)

The objective of the Urban Water Supply Project of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) which covers a period of five years is to increase sustainable access to safe drinking water in some urban centers of the DRC. The main outcomes are: (i) increased access to basic services of water, mainly through domestic connections and standpipes; (ii) reducing losses and increasing productivity and; (iii) the improvement of the financial situation of Regie de distribution d'eau de la Republique Democratique du Congo (REGIDESO). There are several potential impacts during implementation of the project. Where it is not possible to avoid or minimize some problems, potential impacts during the implementation of the project could be summarized as follows: 1) Impact on land i.e. acquisition of land permanently required by the facilities and temporary occupation limited during the work ; 2) impact on crops; 3) impact on livelihoods and income, where crop farms, whether owners or tenants, are destroyed or damaged, where the landowner loses the revenues or lease its land, or where the activities of small traders could be temporarily interrupted during the achievements of project activities.
