The development objective of the Food Processing and Value Addition Pilot Project is to modernize and enhance the competitiveness of the unorganized segment of the food processing industry in selected states and districts of India. Some of the negative impacts include: (i) web based portal will be difficult to use for many women and tribal entrepreneurs; (ii) selection of Technical Service Provider (TSP) and corresponding last-mile agents without focus on diversity; and (iii) the project fails to promote both women owned micro enterprises and women workforce participation. Some of the mitigation measures include: (i) training will be provided to entrepreneurs in using web based portal; (ii) the hiring of TSP and other field agents needs to emphasis on diversity aspect; and (iii) ensuing the gender action plan and labour standard action plan is closely implemented and monitored.
