Financial institutions in distress : causes and remedies (Inglês)

This paper examines the phenomenon of financial distress that has taken on worldwidedimensions in the late 1970s and in the 1980s. It traces the causes back to external and internalshocks that affected developing countries during that period and to management problems. Itfurther outltnes various options and steps leading to a restructuring of distressed financialinstitutions. The macroeconomic and sectoral prerequisites conducive to financial restructuringare also examined.
