Lao People’s Democratic Republic - Mekong Integrated Water Resource Management Project : additional financing : resettlement plan : Compensation and resettlement policy framework (Inglês)

The development objective of the Mekong Integrated Water Resource Management Project for Lao People’s Democratic Republic is to establish key examples of integrated water resources management practices in the lower Mekong basin at the regional, national, and subnational levels, thus contributing to more sustainable river basin management in the lower Mekong. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) for marginal loss of land, cash compensation at replacement cost which is equivalent to the current market value of land within the village, of similar type, category, and productive capacity, free from transaction costs (taxes, administration fees); (2) if the currently held fish stocks will not be harvested before the project takes possession of the fishpond, then cash compensation for the projected mature value of fish stock held at the time of compensation; (3) for informal businesses (shops) cash compensation equivalent to the daily wage rate (10,000 kip per day) multiplied by the number of days of business disruption; (4) compensation at replacement cost for present and existing structures based on its present value; (5) compensation for the removal, excavation, relocation, reburial, and other related costs will be paid in cash to each affected family; and (6) provision of dump trucks to haul all old and new building materials and personal possessions.
