Angola - Power rehabilitation and technical assistance : Angola - Reabilitacao e assistencia tecnica no sector electrico (Espanhol)

Economic and political dislocations since 1975 have left the country with virtually no competent managerial, technical, or skilled staff. Although electric utilities are striving to maintain service, the power sector has suffered more than a decade of neglect. The economic crisis, sabotage and the ravages of civil war have taken their toll. The proposals made in this report are designed to: a) increase the effectiveness of the power sector by re-establishing electricity supply to economically key areas; b) improve local capacity to rehabilitate and expand the electric networks; and c) lay the foundation for more efficient use of energy resources, sector reorganization and greater attention to the environmental impact of energy resource use. The proposals include rehabilitation of physical facilities including hydro and thermal plants, the distribution networks of Luanda, Lobito and Benguela and Huambo, as well as the main transmission lines in the Northern, Central and Southern systems. The report recommends that the highest priority in the rehabilitation program should be given to the transmission lines.
