Land reform and private farming in Moldova (Inglês)

This publication is an interim report, reflecting the status of land reform and farm restructuring in Moldova on the basis of two small-scale surveys of the rural sector conducted in 1995 and 1996, and a critical assessment of the relevant legislation. The first survey was designed to present a grassroots perspective on land privatization in Moldova and was administered to individual respondents in 22 villages. This survey was based on a questionnaire-based attitude survey and a series of in-depth interviews. The second survey used a small sample of private-sector farming enterprises. This survey provides quantitative information about farm activities, as well as more generic information on organizational structure, decision making procedures, and accounting systems. The final report will include an analysis of the situation based on an extensive farm-sector survey currently being conducted by the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
