Sierra Leone - Economic Diversification Project : Environmental Assessment : Environmental and Social Management Framework (Inglês)

The development objective of the Economic Diversification Project for Sierra Leone is to facilitate investments and the growth of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurship in Sierra Leone. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) maintenance, fueling, and cleaning of vehicles and equipment to take place at off-site workshop with adequate leakage prevention measures; (2) speed limit shall be set for construction and transportation vehicle both within and outside the project site to avoid re- entrainment of dust; (3) facilities will be properly designed and constructed to blend with the existing environment; (4) avoid displacement and impact on livelihood to the extent possible through alternative locations, re-routing, and feasible technical design options; (5) employment and other opportunities to be given to local communities as much as possible; (6) reusable building materials like roofing sheets, windows and doors, and cement blocks may be salvaged and given to the community for use; (7) covered dust bins will be provided on site for collection of domestic solid waste and shall be disposed of by the contractor at the identified waste dumps; (8) adequate alternative arrangements to be made to minimize impact on motorist and pedestrians within existing tourist sites; and (9) provide and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety boots, reflective jackets, hard hats, hand gloves, earplugs, nose masks, etc.
