Colombia - Rio Bogota Environmental Recuperation and Flood Control Project : environmental assessment : Estrategia regional (Espanhol)

The development objective of the Rio Bogota Environmental Recuperation and Flood Control Project for Colombia is to transform the Rio Bogota from an environmental liability into an urban asset for the metropolitan region by improving water quality, reducing flood risk, and creating a series of multi-functional parks along the river. Although the net environmental impact of the project is a positive one there are identifiable significant adverse impacts. Relevant negative impacts of the project are impacts created by vehicular traffic, increased noise, increased presence of particulate matter and dust in the landscape, presence of temporary camps, debris management, occupational health incidents and safety. Other problems caused by the project include: disposal of bio-solids; industrial safety and occupational health; odors; and effect on the landscape and existing vegetation covers.
