India - Madhya Pradesh Water Sector Project : restructuring : Main report (Inglês)

The development objective of the Madhya Pradesh Water Sector Project (MPWSRP) for India is to improve productivity of water for sustainable growth and poverty reduction in selected focus river basins (Chambal, Sindh, Betwa, Ken and Tons) of Madhya Pradesh. The closing date for the project will be extended from March 31, 2012 until June 30, 2012. The Government of Madhya Pradesh (GoMP), supported by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Ministry of Finance, Government of India, requested in January 2012 a restructuring of MPWSRP to: (i) increase the focus on overall integrated water resources management; (ii) increase the focus on service oriented water delivery and management by the Water Resources Department, Water Users Associations, and other agencies; and (iii) to continue rehabilitation and modernization of especially medium- and large-scale irrigation schemes through simplified implementation arrangements. The request from GoMP includes a change in scope and approach of the project that is considerably different from what was envisaged seven years ago. The original project development objective (PDO) and key performance indicators may not fully reflect anymore the proposed activities as requested by GoMP. This will be the third extension of the project.
