Afghanistan - Kabul Urban Transport Efficiency Improvement Project : environmental assessment (Vol. 3) : Environmental and social management framework (Inglês)

The objective of the Kabul Urban Transport Efficiency Improvement Project for Afghanistan is to improve transport services efficiency in selected corridors and build institutional capacity to strengthen service delivery. Negative impacts include: income reduction of businesses, shop keepers and vendors, water pollution, air pollution, dust, noise, waste disposal, and traffic. Mitigation measures include: (1) preparing a compensation plan with public consultations; (2) providing facilities for storage of lubricants, fuels and other hydrocarbons; (3) ensuring all heavy equipment and machinery are in full compliance with the national and municipal regulations for emissions; (4) fitting all powered equipment and machinery with noise abating gear such as mufflers in full compliance with the national and municipal regulations; (5) formulating and implementing construction related traffic management plan; and (6) formulating regulations to impose speed limits, road discipline and pedestrian safety.
