Uganda - Private Power Generation Project : resettlement action plan (Vol. 8) : Resettlement action plan for BEL Bujagali Hydropower (HPP) : main report (English)

The primary objective of the Private Power Generation Project for Uganda is to increase thermal power generation in order to minimize increased load shedding and economic disruption over the a short to medium term period, in a sustainable and affordable manner. The details of resettlement and compensation activities to be carried out for the Bujagali Interconnection Project and the Bujagali Hydropower Project (HPP) are presented in the Interconnection Project's resettlement and community development action plan (RCDAP). The RCDAP contains a detailed implementation plan, including budget, schedule, description of monitoring activities, land required for the project and for project affected peoples (PAPs), businesses and other land uses affected; and UETCL's compensation and resettlement strategy. Overall, the resettlement and land compensation measures are designed to ensure that PAPs are better off and or, at least, no worse off as a result of project implementation activities, and compliance with the laws and regulations of Uganda and international requirements contained in the Equator Principles, and the Bank's operational directives on Resettlement of Displaced Peoples.
