The Telephone Expansion Program Project for El Salvador will assist in financing a program to expand and improve telephone and telegraph services in the country. It is the first phase of a comprehensive long range program of development of the telecommunications facilities in San Salvador. There is a high demand for telephones but an inadequate system of supplies and facilities to handle it. The project will help to alleviate this problem by: 1) purchasing land; 2) constructing buildings; and 3) procuring equipment, materials, and services to engineer and install telephones, automatic exchange lines, and a microwave radio system. These improvements will modernize the telecommunications system in order to meet the most immediate and essential telephone needs of the principal cities of El Salvador.
